Getting to Know the Interpretive Team  ______
Although he's new to Interpretive, Tim Melson isn't new to the area. He has lived in Orange County his whole life and has no plans to move. Tim joined the Interpretive team this June as a Customer Support Specialist in the Management Simulation Group. Tim works in customer support creating class websites, advancing simulations and doing simulation testing. He is also being trained in accounting and accounts receivable.

Tim enjoys BizCafe the most out of all the Interpretive products he has played since starting because of its strategic aspects. He enjoys seeing how players' decisions affect each other in BizCafe's direct competitive mode. While at Piedmont Virginia Community College, Tim used a simulation in an accounting class, but it was “nothing like what we have here.”

In addition to his studies at PVCC, Tim earned a degree from the University of Virginia in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Social Sciences. Tim especially enjoyed his courses on U.S. History, particularly 20th century, and government. His three favorite college courses were World War II, Virginia History 1865-present, and Issues in Leaderships.

Tim's leadership skills have grown with his experience as a volunteer firefighter, especially since becoming an officer. He has become more assertive and feels that the leadership material he learned in fire officer classes “translates into everyday life.”

According to Tim, running into burning houses is “mostly instinct at this point,” although he doesn't see a reason for fear when fully protected by turnout gear and working under a competent leader on hand. Tim's reasons for becoming a firefighter are similar to many members in his department—family tradition, following in his father's footsteps.

Prior to starting at Interpretive, Tim was an Office and Administrative Assistant at C2 Ink, which involved customer service, bindery work, copying, deliveries, and cutting paper. Other work experiences include Ridgid Products, a factory in Orange County for which Tim worked three years after high school, moving up to a Setup position quickly and then starting at PVCC after the night shift began to take its toll.
