Join us for a three-day journey into mastering the use of Interpretive’s Marketing Simulations! Connect with your peers, our incredible team, and authors! Set in Charlottesville, VA (home of Interpretive Simulations), a destination known for its natural beauty and history.
This a rare opportunity to meet directly with the staff who assist you in the use of our sims, but even more importantly, to interact with some of our top users of the simulations! Our goal is that in these interactions, you’ll return back to your class with fresh ideas about using our simulations. Our speakers are chosen for their passion and expertise in using our sim in their classes. Additional events will provide more opportunities to network and learn.
If you are considering using one of our simulations, this is the perfect place to learn about the simulation and get your questions answered from experienced users. Come learn how to integrate it in your classes, common challenges students and instructors face, best practices, and much more!
This event will include not only lectures and presentations, but live play of the simulations with your peers to truly Learn by Doing! You will discover the depth of the simulations and its effectiveness in challenging students’ knowledge.
Lodging and Travel: All lodging and travel arrangements are the responsibility of the registrant. We encourage everyone to attend the Welcome Dinner, which is scheduled for the evening of Friday, October 9, at 6 pm. If your spouse or significant other is coming with you for this trip, they are welcome to join us for the Welcome Dinner. Please let us know so we can give the venue a headcount.
This event will contain several key elements: interaction with peers, lectures by the authors and guest speakers, and live game play of the marketing simulations guided by our team. By networking with your peers, you will gain additional insight into the ways they use our marketing simulations that may apply to your use as well. Our team hopes to facilitate discussions on key questions all instructors face when using simulations. Having the opportunity to play against your peers will provide you hands-on engagement with the simulations, as our team oversees your play, interacts with the group about key questions that arise, and in the end results in a greater, deeper understanding of the simulations!
The first day will start with a keynote presentation covering the history and context of the development of our simulations. We'll then move to several presentations from our Customer Relationship Managers about key topics in the sims, followed with a panel discussion with some of the top users of our simulations and their experience. The day will end with break-out sessions specific to each simulation and start of live-play of the simulation among attendees.
We will continue live play and throughout the day, monitored by our staff and guest speakers (top users of the sim), as well as more interactive sessions on a variety of important topics about integrating the simulation into your class. This is meant to be a very practical day, and will include sessions about scenarios, grading, research tools, and an in-depth look at the resources we make available to get the most out of sims.
On our final day, we will be wrapping up the experience, reviewing the live play results and reviewing what participants have taken away from the experience. Additionally we'll have a discussion with everyone, giving plenty of time for deep questions about utilizing sims most effectively in the classrooms. We also have a planned special guest speaker--to be announced!

Laura has been with Interpretive since 2011. In college, she used two of our simulations, BizCafe and MarketShare in her classes. In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband and dog, traveling and crafting!
Holly has been with the company since 2014. Holly went to JMU and received a B.S. in Biology. When she’s not working in a career field that isn’t applicable to her degree, she enjoys hiking, reading and spending time with her animals.
Tim has been with Interpretive since 2010. Prior to this, he worked in publishing, and 7 years as a carpenter/builder. In his spare time he writes, hikes, and photographs, and spends as much time with his kids and his motorcycle as possible.
Another unique aspect for the Master Class is the opportunity to submit papers for all participants to review! This can be a formal or informal submission, meaning, this could simply be an overview of how you use our simulation in your class, the challenges as well as the benefits, or it can be a formal submission with references and citations, as well as research. We’ll put this together in a digital folio for review.

Welcome to Charlottesville, Virginia! You’re certain to find something for you here, whether you’re a city dweller or outdoor enthusiast, a history buff or arts lover, a wine connoisseur or beer devotee. A witness to much of our nation’s past since its founding in 1762, Charlottesville is steeped in history, with figures including Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe claiming it as home. In fact, at the conclusion of this event, we’ll have an opportunity to visit Jefferson’s nearby home of Monticello!
Charlottesville has much to offer in the present day too, though. As a thriving university town surrounded by stunning vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, entertainment is never hard to find.
The nearby Shenandoah National Park and George Washington National Forest boast countless hiking opportunities, or you can head down Skyline Drive to enjoy its many scenic overlooks. There is no shortage of wineries, breweries, cideries, and distilleries in and around Charlottesville, and the city itself is well known for its local restaurant scene. The Downtown Mall, one of the largest of its kind, is an outdoor pedestrian mall containing many of those local restaurants along with shops, bars, and music and theater venues. And of course there’s the University of Virginia itself, with its beautiful campus featuring the iconic Rotunda, designed by Thomas Jefferson, on the Lawn.
We’re so pleased to have the opportunity to welcome you to our city for this event. We hope you’ll enjoy your stay here in Charlottesville and come away with a greater appreciation for all it has to offer and why we love calling it home!
