Experiential Learning for Strategy Courses Using Airline
How Prof. Calvin Lindo redesigned his course to better prepare students for real world experiences.
Introducing Airline
Business students need more than concepts. They need practice making decisions, working through uncertainty, communicating results, and learning from the consequences of their choices.
Join us for a practical faculty webinar with Calvin Lindo, MBA, ABD, Associate Professor in the College of Business at the University of Northwestern Ohio, as he shares how he uses our Airline business simulation in a capstone course to create a more realistic, team-based learning experience for students.
Prof. Lindo redesigned his course to help students strengthen the skills business advisory and community members often say graduates need most: communication, teamwork, real-world experience, and confidence. In his course, students work in teams to manage an airline, make financial and operational decisions, analyze results, and present their performance as if reporting to a CEO.
About the Webinar
In this session, Prof. Lindo will walk through how he uses Airline to move students from passive learning to active decision-making.
Students are not simply studying business strategy. They are running a company, making financial and operational decisions, making tradeoffs, responding to outcomes, and learning how their decisions connect across finance, operations, marketing, and management.
Calvin’s approach gives students the opportunity to make mistakes in a low-risk environment, work through those mistakes as a team, and become more confident in their ability to think and communicate like business professionals.
Students learn from mistakes and become more confident with guidance from the instructor acting as CEO of their companies.
During the webinar, Prof. Lindo will discuss:
-
How he structures his capstone course using Airline
-
What students learn through the simulation experience
-
How students build communication and teamwork skills through CEO-style check-ins and annual presentations
-
The major challenges students encounter during the simulation
-
Recommendations for instructors who want to adopt a similar approach in their own courses
Who Should Attend?
This webinar is designed for business faculty who teach, coordinate, or are considering courses in:
-
Strategic management, capstone, management, and operations courses.
-
Current Airline users are also encouraged to attend. Prof. Lindo’s approach may offer new ideas for structuring team meetings, presentations, assessment, and student reflection.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FOR STRATEGY COURSES USING AIRLINE
Presenter: Calvin Lindo, MBA, ABD
Why Airline?
Airline is a business strategy simulation that places students in the role of managing a regional airline. Students make decisions, review results, adjust strategy, and see how their choices affect company performance over time.
For instructors, Airline creates a natural setting for students to practice integrated business thinking. For students, it creates the kind of applied experience that helps business concepts become clearer, more connected, and more memorable.
Calvin’s course shows what can happen when a simulation is not just added to a class, but intentionally built into the learning journey.
