New StratSim 3+3 scenario! Available for Fall 2024.

New 3+3 StratSim Scenario

An Alternative Scenario option

AVAILABLE FOR FALL 2024

StratSim 3+3 scenario webinar recap:

For many years, instructors have chosen between two starting options for StratSim: Even Start and Unique Start. Now we’re offering a third starting option: 3+3. It offers two sets of 3 equal firms in terms of their financial position, resources, and opportunity.
We hosted a webinar focused on the 3+3 scenario, here’s a quick summary of the key points discussed, with more detailed information available below and in the webinar recording.
Key Highlights:
Significant differences from previous scenarios: 3+3 scenario divides firms into three value-oriented high-volume producers and three high-end low-volume manufacturers (other team configurations are possible as well).
Alternative Energy Vehicles (AEVs): AEVs now have a bigger role in the simulation. The big difference is that AEVs are a secondary preference for about half of the customers, and growth of demand for the class is greater than in the traditional scenarios.
Distribution strategies: The new distribution setup requires more intricate decision-making. Firms start with fewer dealerships and must carefully plan regional expansions, making distribution a more demanding and strategic aspect of the simulation.

The 3+3 scenario does not simply refresh existing options – it provides a substantially different experience from start to finish.
Built on instructor feedback and changing market needs, the 3+3 scenario provides an updated experience for both students and faculty.

New vehicle classes reflecting current trends

More impactful distribution/regional decisions

Updated consumer segments with different needs

Challenging economic conditions

Configuration

Equal resources and opportunity against their “peer” firms (direct competitors)
Financial Position
Firms A, B, C = Same
Firms D, E, F = Same

Distribution

Home Regions:
Firms A, D = North
Firms B, E = South
Firms C, F = West
All firms directly compete in the East. Each firm has a region where they have no presence. Each firm has a region where they are a secondary player

AEV

Alternative Energy Vehicles (AEVs) play a more prominent role in the 3+3 scenario.
Students will want to consider AEVs as part of their long-term strategy.

Vehicle Classes

All firms have a sedan and crossover vehicle.
A, B, C have a multipurpose vehicle (MPV).
D, E, F have a luxury class vehicle.
Performance, AEV, and truck classes may be developed and introduced.
Delivery vehicle available if playing B2B.

THE 3+3 SCENARIO ALLOWS YOU TO:

Rotate scenarios

Alternate simulations between terms without students being able to easily share prior terms’ successful approaches.

Updated conditions

Include updated vehicle classes, technology shifts, and economic conditions reflecting today’s auto industry

Focus on Distribution

Increase the role of distribution/regional decisions in strategic planning

Grading flexibility

Ensure grades are fair by comparing within the groups of 3 equal start firms

Flexible team configurations in 3+3 Scenario

  • 6 teams, with 3 on the low end (A, B, C) and 3 on the high end (D, E, F). Compare directly teams in the same starting positions.
  • 4 teams, with two on the low end (A and B), two on the high end (D and E), and two not played (C and F). Compare directly A+B or D+E.
  • 3 teams where the 3 firms played are either on the low end (A, B, C) or all on the high end (D, E, F).
